This is a picture of the bus that the freedom riders were in when it was bombed. http://abc/clio.com
Freedom riders were started because of the Congress on Racial Equality(CORE). CORE started freedom rides because the blacks refused to ride on buses and trains if they were not integrated. The reason why the blacks refused to ride on the buses was because they did not want to sit in the back of the bus or give up their seats to white people. The blacks walked to work and if not they would car pool with the few blacks that did drive. So the CORE started freedom rides. Freedom Riders were black civil rights supporters, some were even white. They traveled on buses from the South to the North. The Freedom Riders fought for what they believed in in non-violent ways. They were non-violent even when they were harassed and attacked by white people. They fought against racial segregation in bus terminals. More than 300 black and white students and adults boarded these buses. Eventually the Freedom Riders integrated 120 bus terminals. Many people did not believe in what the Freedom Riders believed in. They believed that blacks and whites should be separated. They hated the fact that the Freedom Riders were trying to fight against what they believed in. What they believed was right was obviously wrong, people should not be judged by the color of their skin but for the person they truly are.
